Homer & Other Tales

Taking a minute before I get things rolling to post something. This pic of Homer (I know it's kinda small) is to show that his left eye is gone. There is nothing there. His eye looks like he is winking and they stitched it shut. Nada. No eye. Since he is no longer in pain he seems to be ok with it, although he does rub it on things (sofa leg, etc... ) every now and again, but overall, he seems good.

Next, I came into the miraculous wifi enabled iPod Touch. For me, the greatest part of this device has nothing to do with playing music files. I love the web browser within. That's right - there is a mini version of Apple's Safari browser and some very innovative "touch-screen" controls that make the thing VERY USABLE. At least for me, it is. It also has an AWESOME YouTube player in it, Google Maps, Mail, Contacts, Stocks (yawn), Weather (yawn)... You can Jailbreak it (Googlefu can help with this one) and run third party apps on it (I sorta know a guy who sorta came into one the same day I did and he sorta did that and he allegedly found a really cool wifi sniffer app and a few games, but then the YouTube thing wouldn't connect so he killed it and restored to factory).

The Apple App store is supposed to be up in a few months - I have a few items on my wishlist:

- A WiFi sniffer - uhhh... my friend said that one was really cool.
- A Podcast downloader - the PSP can do this now. I'd love to not have to hook to a computer ever.
- Solitare - one with a CHOICE between one and three card versions of Klondike.
- ShisenSho - I love this game and I think the Touch's touchscreen would enhance this game greatly.

BTW - Taco Bell is awesome - Free WiFi! I looked into a few services that offer Public Wifi for a few beans a month (mainly at McDonald's and things). Cool, but I am not near the hotspots enough yet to worry about it - yet.

New links on the right - a box for Podcasts (moved Dawn & Drew there and added Geekshow). Give a listen if you want.

In the previous post, I talked about The Last Starfighter - I have heard rumors that there is currently a sequel in the works, and it supposedly the lead has signed up to reprise the role. Not sure about the rest, especially when a few of the actors that played main characters have died (Robert Preston as Centauri and Dan O'Herlihy as star navigator Grig). Looking forward to anything that might come from this.

The Last Starfighter

I am watching "The Last Starfighter" while downloading the latest Ubuntu (Hardy Huron Alpha 6). The movie is one of the greatest geek tomes of the 80's - a dork who lives in a trailer park kicks the shit out of a video game and achieves the high score. Little did he know that the video game was a test to find Starfighters to take on Xur and the Kodan Armada. Classic! I think this is going to be a keeper on the old DVR till I break down and either Amazon up the DVD or come into one in my daily travels.

Chops in the oven tonight, with salad, and maybe some mashed potats. Mmmm...

Looking into getting an Asus Eee PC - tiny and runs Linux. Small screen, though. I sorta wrote a Bookmarklet to resize the screen to the 800 x 480 size so you can experience what it would be like to surf on an Eee...

800x480

I think you can click the above and resize your window, or you can save it as a bookmark and use it over and over.
