Podcast Love And Potato Salad

Lately I have been getting into podcasts - most of my news comes from the New York Times app, NBC Nightly News's podcast, and I dabble with Democracy Now!'s podcast every now and again. I find that if you watch the video podcasts via the Touch's Music app, it will play vertically instead of forcing you to sideways the device. Cool.

Watched a bit of a movie called "Julie and Julia" about some lady who decided to cook all the recipes out of Julia Child's cookbook (over 500 french dishes) within a year and blogging about the experience. The The Julie/Julia Project blog is still there, although the site navigation has a bit to be desired. I actually sat down today and watched the whole thing. I like people who get into something so completely...

I was inspired by the event in the previous paragraph to try to make red-skinned potato salad. I did OK, in my opinion, although the 15 minutes of boiling should have been more like 20, and the yellow onions in the fishnet bag are WAY too harsh when uncooked. I did use 1/4 sour cream and 3/4 mayo for the "dressing", and that was actually really good. Never had it like that before.

Need to invest in a good set of kitchen knives - I tried the onion chop and out knives all are serrated edge things that don't lend themselves to fluid chopping motion.

Testing the new-to-me keyboard

This is a test - just switched to an old ergonomic multimedia keyboard that we had laying around. The main reason was that the keyboard I was using is black, and in low light situations it was impossible to "see" things on the keyboard. I know how to type, but if you got your "base" keys wrong you would be typing way wrong and it was a PAIN in the keyster. Used it before, but have to get used to the "split" design again. Not too bad, though. Need to see if I can find the driver so the hot keys will work.

Today is mellow - playing with the computer, got a new knife sharpener for the pocket knife, and things such as that. Enjoyed a Bar-B-Q sandwich and fries from Giorgio's (good - put the slaw on it and a bit of Texas Pete).

Got the new Harry Potter DVD the other day - had not seen it till Tuesday evening, but I liked. A letdown from the book, but still a good tale.

Working the Lego Star Wars on the Wii. I like it and it isn't making me motion sick.

Homer has been having more seizures lately. For a short while he was having one a day, and that scares me. He is such a great dog, I hope he mellows out. The vet told us awhile back that there is not much you can do for him, just to let hm know you are there, so I pet him and talk softly to him till it stops. I guess that's why I HATE to leave him alone.

Almost time for Christmas Chili! Might make a test pot for work soon.

Starstuff

--->>For what it's worth - iTunes had "Robot Chicken Star Wars" and "Robot Chicken Star Wars Episode II" for $2.99 each, so I nailed them and greatly enjoyed.

--->>A friend lent me Lego Star Wars The Complete Saga for the Wii, and so far, it doesn't seem to get me motion sick. Yeah, me! Also, the controller makes light saber noises as you wave it around. Nice touch!

--->>Got the classic controller thing for the Wii - costs $20 and you plug it into the Nunchuk connector on the original controller. Works well - was Mario'ing my ass off the other day. I still wish they had a save on that one - that is why emulation with save state will ALWAYS RULE when it comes to old games!

--->>The Guild finished season 3 - and I finally found a portal for the whole shebang: Parallel Universe: The Guild. I also noted that Seasons 1 and 2 are available on DVD from Amazon ~ OR ~ they have BOTH seasons for about the same price together in one package. I'm just saying.

--->>Saw the new Star Trek prequel and liked it. Like.

--->>The dog got a bath today. Luckily, I had nothing to do with it.
