Link Drop

Random links collected from here and there about - well, anything, but there is much geek flavor to be had here. Current as of this posting, but as is the way of the internet, subject to disappear without warning.

- The Folk File - A Folkie's Dictionary - Has quite a bit of info on "roots music". Artist's index, instruments, music theory... in a very simple and fast loading text-only format.

- Gotta Digg - A link to a YouTube hosted music video by a talented girl who is trying to contest her way to the Super Bowl - has some serious geek overtones for those that are into the user based link farm known as Digg.

- A Fan of Freedom: Thoughts on the Biography of RMS by Eric Raymond - An essay about the biography of Richard Stallman, the chief spokesperson for the Free Software Movement. Includes a link to the full text of the book in question, Free as in Freedom by Sam Williams (and now I have included the link, too).

- 8bitpeoples Discography - A downloadable mp3 collection of Chip-Hop music made with Game Boys, Vic 20's, Commodore 64's, and other 8bit computing devices from the days of - well, the 80's and 90's. Look for the Christmas collection! All music on the site is released under Creative Commons License.

- Wikipedia - Dates in Star Wars - An extended timeline of significant events in the Star Wars universe as pieced together from official sources, ie - movies, books, tv shows, etc... and speaking of Wikipedia...

- WikiCharts - the Top 100 page views - Shows what is being looked at the most on WikiPedia. Or you can alternately look at WikiRage and see what pages are getting updated the most often.

- Compelled - The Buffy/Angelverse Reshaped by Hotpoint - A series of FanFics of an alternate Buffyverse. For fans of the TV shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it's spin-off, Angel, a rather interesting skewing of the original storyline, starting with the cannon and concurrent Buffy Season 7 and Angel Season 4. Book 4 is still a work in progress as of this posting, but seems to be updating very frequently.
