The Beatles Sessions

The Walden Books in the mall here had a big sale going and I came across a book about The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions, which is basically a diary of studio happenings from the perspective of the studio logs and the people who were there during all of The Beatles recording sessions. A very interesting read, if you have ever wondered how the creative process of musical geniuses evolved.

When I was in high school a friend of mine got a dual-deck cassette recorder. He was the consummate mix-taper of our crowd, and he was always playing with sound effects, segues, and different ways of mixing sound together. One evening we all started playing with tape bouncing and recorded about 10 layers of a bullshit tune I wrote - the song sounded like shit due to tape generation loss, but we had an awesome time recording it - add hand claps here, doubling the vocals, etc... it got me thinking of how music evolves.

Anyway - busy listening to some Beatles and reading about how it all came to be.

For the interested, on New Years Eve 1999 The String Cheese Incident performed, among other things, the entire side 2 of The Beatles classic album "Abbey Road". You can stream or download a soundboard sourced copy here:

Enjoy, ya'll!
